  • 10mm Diced

The fennel is part of the carrot family and it is grown widely across Europe and the Mediterranean, usually in dry soil on sea or river banks. All parts of the fennel plant are edible, with a bulb-like base, stalks like celery, and feathery leaves, and it has a distinct sweet liquorice flavour. Originating in Belgium and the Netherlands, the fennel is a popular ingredient in dishes across Europe and is particularly popular in Italian dishes where it is used in pasta, soups, salads, and risottos.

IQF fennel has the same great taste, texture, health benefits and nutrients as fresh fennel but with a much longer shelf life, which maximises its convenience.

Process

Uren’s fennel is sourced from our BRC accredited suppliers in Belgium and the Netherlands and is grown to industry standards.

Fennel is a hardy perennial that is usually sown from early autumn to late winter and can take anywhere from 12 to 14 weeks to fully grow ready for harvest. Once the fennel is harvested, it is then brought back to the factory to be cleaned, quality checked, and cut to size. The fennel is then individually quick frozen at incredibly low temperatures to prevent the formation of ice crystals, lock in flavour and nutrients, and ensure a free-flowing product.
