Spearmint, also known as garden mint, common mint, or lamb mint, is part of the Mentha Spicata mint family. Spearmint is native to Europe and Southern Asia, extending from the North of Ireland to the East of Southern China, and is used in a range of dishes across the globe. Spearmint is the most popular mint in the UK and is commonly used in sweets, to make mint sauce, and makes a lovely accompaniment to lamb, peas, and potatoes.

Spearmint leaves can be used fresh, dried, and frozen. IQF spearmint has the same great taste, texture, health benefits, and nutrients as fresh spearmint but has a much longer shelf life, which maximises its convenience.

Process

Uren’s IQF spearmint is sourced from our BRC accredited suppliers in Belgium and is grown to industry standards.

Spearmint is grown year-round but can take around 2-6 months to grow completely and be ready for harvest. Harvesting for spearmint usually takes place in spring but there is no real harvest season as it can be grown at any time. When the spearmint has been harvested it is taken back to the factory to be cleaned, quality checked and cut to size. The spearmint is then individually quick frozen at incredibly low temperatures to prevent the formation of ice crystals, lock in freshness, and ensure a free-flowing product.

Shelf Life: 24 months from production
