Kathryn’s Giant Leap for the Alzheimer’s Society

Tandem sky diving fund raising campaign to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.

Seven years ago Kathryn Veever’s mum Janet was diagnosed with early onset dementia at the age of 54. She went from being a very physically fit, capable working woman to living in an almost constant state of disillusionment and often psychosis. Janet’s care in recent years has become an almost impossible task with many care providers simply not equipped to meet her needs – in part due to her relatively young age – and the majority of her care has fallen to Kathryn’s father and extended family.

Since diagnosis Kathryn has campaigned tirelessly to try and raise funds and awareness of this disease and to create a better understanding of what living with dementia really means.

Her most recent fund raising campaign was undertaking a tandem sky dive from 15,000ft along with 3 friends/relatives also effected by this diagnosis. Despite having the original date cancelled due to bad weather and prolonging their anguish all 4 brave ladies completed the challenge last weekend and between them managed to raise over £2,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
